Get a new mechanic !
Why did he suggest the switch to begin with ?
Sounds like the switch to me .....
They are nasty things to replace if you have to get right into it.
I always go by the 'If it aint broke, don't fix it' saying, perhaps this is
applicable.
I know it doesn't help much other than to confirm your diagnosis.
