[s-cars] iPod in S4

A properly designed FM transmitter will provide better fidelity than a
device magnetically driving a cassette playback head. FM will get to 15
kHz with flat response, and while metal cassette tapes can approximate
that, it is unlikely that anything Bose made for a car would be designed
to do so. Further, the cassette device would have to be specifically
designed for the playback head and equalization circuit on your brand of
cassette player; otherwise, it can only match the standard for cassette
tapes and hope for the best. (Of course, Bose built the FM circuits
also, so they could be badly equalized, same as his speaker designs.)

On the other hand, unless one is playing symphonic or acoustic
instrument music sources, or sat at the mixing console when the dope
rock band du jour was being recorded, I don't see how one could
determine whether one method or the other had higher fidelity. And let
us not forget that in an automobile that is moving, the background noise
will make the subtleties that make hi fi hi fi undetectable.
