[s-cars] Grabbing some power for a relay

Hi Aaron;
If your kit came with a relay, it likely indicates that the ballasts draw 20
amps to ignite the capsules. This will blow the 10 amp fuses in the low beam
circuits unless you relay the HIDs. Putting in 20 amp fuses may burn the
headlight switch and/or wiring, so don't even think about it :o)
The kit I used only draws 9.5 amps on ignition (I've measured it), but the
supplier builds his own ballasts to provide this. AFAIK, many "standard"
ballasts draw 20 amps.
I took the power feed for my high beam relays directly off the alternator
through 20 amp fuses using 10 gauge wire.
Check out www.urs4.com in the headlights section - there's a photo essay on
how to disable the bulb out warning module as part of a HID install how-to.

Subject: [s-cars] Grabbing some power for a relay
Hi all knowing friends,
I am in the process of installing another HID kit as the first one I
tried did not fit very well.
This new kit came with a relay and im wondering if its necessary as most
kits don't seem to use them.
Where is the best place to find 12v to power this relay?
Easiest would be the battery jumper terminal near the firewall but not a
very clean solution.

Next trick will be to disable the idiot light but ill save that for a
later audi fest.
Gotta finish it today for a 10 hr trip across the northern Nevada desert
to Las Vegas this PM. This is free range country; full of dangerous,
ignorant bovine.
Thanks
Aaron
