[s-cars] panel illumination

Kenneth,

All switches should be lighted with the headlight off except the rear
defroster which is lighted only with headlight on. The seat heater
switches have the seat icon always lighted and the numbers lighted when
it's on. The "0" is not lighted.

The self diagnostic system check the bulbs resistance to determine if
one is burnt. A different bulb could trigger a warning if the wattage is
really off spec but I think only a lower wattage bulb - with higher
resistance - would do that. BTW, you should check the wattage of these
"brighter" bulbs. The headlight harness, switches and headlight
reflectors are really weak on these cars and high wattage bulbs can burn
all that, usually starting by the headlight switch.

Vincent.

Still learning about my new S4. I'm wondering now which lights on my
center
console may be burned out. The only lighted switches I have are the
front
and rear fog lights and the hazard light. Should any others be
illuminated?
Should the heated seat switches be illuminated?

Also, the self-diagnostic test always shows a fault with the lights
(picture
of a bulb crossed out). The previous owner said that the fault is
triggered
as a result of using non-spec (but brighter) bulbs in the headlight
assembly. He figures there is some type of ohm check across the bulbs
that
causes the fault indication. Is there such an ohm test? Or could it be
my
burned out rear fog light causing the problem?

thanks!
