1. The fact that your head gasket failed indicates that your pressure
blow-off valve in your coolant recovery / reservoir tank is not working
correctly. Replace it ASAP for piece of mind.

I'd have to disagree here. In fact, I'd say that is not completely certain
that his headgasket was blown in the first place. The fact that his original
symptom was oil in the coolant (to me) indicates that, if anything, his
headgasket failed between an oil passage and a coolant passage. Generally,
headgaskets fail between a combustion chamber and a coolant passage,
resulting in either a steamy exhaust or compression in the cooling system
(more common on turbo cars).

There are those on this list with more experience than I, but the only times
I've witnessed "chocolate milk," were on occasion that something cracked
between an oil and coolant passage... either in the head or the block. Small
amounts of oil in the coolant are not uncommon, but "chocolate milk" is
generally more serious.

I would check the following... first, is there oil getting into the cooling
system still? And second, check to see if coolant is getting into the oil.
You can send off an oil sample for analysis, or you can test it by taste.
Yes, if you take a drip of your motor oil on your finger and touch it to your
tongue, if antifreeze is present, you will quickly recognize the semisweet
taste. I would have to speculate that you are pushing coolant into your oil
(in the absence of overlooked leaks).
HTH,
Dave
