Fred (and S-gruppees): You said "with KY recall done, didn't touch the rack or transmission - my dealer's techs are competent". I wouldn't be so quick on that one. I was one of the guinea-pigs that had the pre-KY "fix" done. This is the one that involved the entire fuel line replacement - the one that required either dropping the tranny or moving the steering rack away from the firewall to get wiggle room for the long, one-piece, re-engineered fuel line. This was before the official recall, which, as I remember it, took months to finally be issued - after both you and I pestered Transport Canada and others, in the States, pestered their DOT or FHTSA (or whatever it is). I think in the background, Audi was trying to find a fix that would be safe and above all (for them) quick and inexpensive. Hense the KY recall does not involve the entire fuel line, just a portion of it. Therefore, it wasn't the fact that your dealer's techs are "competent" (they may well be) but more that the KY recall was designed to avoid the transmission and the steering rack - which, trust me, is much better for all involved. BTDT.

Dave F. (who still has the unused KY recall letter- please God, don't make me go to the dealer again - twice in five years is TOO TOO much!!).
