Most boost controllers can be installed either top or bottom control. As a
rule if you have a bottom feeder control from the factory (91>turbos), use
bottom control, if you have a top feeder control from the factory (86>91) you
use the top control. That said, some boost controllers work better on top
than on the bottom depending on where you take the feed tap. Stepper motors
are what make boost controllers desireable, but the downside is that you have
decreased the turbo pressure points by 10fold minimally from what the factory
offers.

The A'pexi boost controller applies boost pressure to the top of the
wastegate to achieve the rpm and gear defined target pressure (+/- small
differences due to present air temperature vs. the recent learning air
temperature). You would find its continuous servo control much better
than a binary control, if you want to control the top of the wastegate.
And you get an excellent boost meter.
