Rob,

  Bring some beer over and we'll try Joey's fix. I think he's right about
cutting the wire past the plug. When we spliced it together it was after the
plug. I think the plug itself may be causing the problem. I'll bet if you cut
the plug off and wire nut the ends together it will probably be fine.
