~I drive my CQ in the winter and S6 avant in the summer (6 months each).
~
~For ideal storage, what're the steps I should be taking as I store
~either one
~for 6 months. Some thoughts come to mind, butb please feel free to add:
~
~1. Shoul I disconnect the battery? Should it be hooked up to a
~trickle charger or should I just let it drain?
Do (a) or (b), but not (c). If you just let it drain you run the risk
(maybe its an almost certainty) of running the battery down so far it is
permanently damaged and will not accept a recharge. If you do (a) you will
wipe out all memory presets (radio for sure, seats etc. I'm not sure) and
will need, at a minimum the radio safety lock code.
~2. Is it OK to leave the used oil in engine for 6 months, would this
~facilitate corrosion? Or should I do an oil change and then store.
I suspect you would want to be sure there is NO WATER in the oil.
~3. Should the fuel tank be full or empty?
I've been told full is better than empty, especially if in a high humidity
climate where condensation may be an issue. ?? couldn't (or could it) hurt
to toss in a dozen oz. or so of one of the fuel "savers"
~4. Any pressure issues with the tires?
I don't think a pressure issue, but you'd be better off to put the car up on
blocks to guard against flat spotting the tires, or roll the car every so
often (how often is often enough?) to avoid flat spots.
~5. Any issues that apply to the S6 and not the CQ, or vice versa?
Don't know if mice &/or other rodents and insects have a preference for one
vs. the other, but seriously, depending on where you plan on storing the
car(s) and the time of year it goes up on blocks, these things (squirrels,
mice, "marmots" etc.) can be problem. In fact, in the Scandinavian &
northern European countries, list lore has it that Audi's cars can in fact
be equipped with a factory Optional "Anti Rodent" system. At least of da
one east coast wanna be S-list mafia claims to have had his car seriously
disabled by a squirrel. For that matter I still have a dead squirrel stuck
in the front of my Avant after having it up on blocks for @ 6 weeks during
the west coast FMIC tailoring trials. You can't be too careful out there
Chris. I don't knew about the east coast squirrels, but out here in the
west, .... well you as you can see from the attached photo, WE HAVE
PROBLEMS!
~
~Plase feel free to address any other areas I might have left out.
~
~Thanks,
~Chris
