I was part of the GP for the 1529.140 UrS4/6 kit ~3 years ago. Eibach had
officially discontinued the 1529.140 kit a year or so earlier but some folks
at Marcor in Canada and another place in CO whose name escapes me, convinced
Eibach to make "one last batch". The first kit we got had the 1527.001
fronts and 1517.002 rears and folks on the list that had purchased the
original 1529.140 kit pointed out that the spring numbers were different.
The original kits had 1529.001 fronts and 1529.002 rears. After much
perseverance by Peter Anderson who coordinated the GP, Eibach admitted we
got the wrong springs and made a new batch for us. When the new set arrived
I had the opportunity to compare the two sets side by side and take
measurements (both brand new out of the box). There definitely was a
difference between the two. The 1529.001 fronts appeared to be stiffer than
the 1527s based on larger wire diameter and shorter free length. The
1529.002 rears had the same wire diameter and number of active coils as the
1517.002 springs, but had ~2 less inactive coils than the 1517.002s making
them 45mm shorter, which I guess makes them 10mm shorter than the specs you
listed for the latest rear spring (1516.002). Hey there's our 10mm spacer
;-)
If Eibach is now claiming that the specs between the old 1529.001/.002 and
today's 1527.001 & 1516.002 (1517.002?) are the same, then one way or
another they don't have very good records.

No, no-
Of course, we'd all speak English fluently- the cops don't
have to know that, though. :-)
International license is not valid in your home country, but
I've seen it done, successfully. Go figure. Just need a foreign
passport and some big balls.

Hello,
Excuse this lurker while I pop in with this observation...
What we have invented here is the Car of Babel.
Three drivers from three different countries that don't
speak English are very likely not to speak each other's languages
either, so they can't talk to each other.
I'd volunteer as the third driver (Italy ... English is actually my
second language that I learned when I was 8) but my driver's license is
from Ohio!
Is an international driver's license valid in the same country that
issued your real driver's license?

Avants fetch a premium as they were only sold here for one year and are
quite rare. Expect to pay anywhere from $19-25K for a really nice low
milage example. I bought my 110k mile example for $19,500 from KAR of MN
about a year ago. I probably overpaid, but at the time, this was one of the
cheapest I could find.

Ian,
There is a really nice S6 for sale at a dealer in Ohio. To find a nice
S-car you often have to go out of state. See the link and information
below. Looks like a nice car. Black over Ecru leather.
http://www.diamondlot.com/byersimports/
Click on Make.Model.Year, then Audi, and then S6. Will bring up the car and
some pictures. For more information about this vehicle, call Shaun Kniffin
at 614-552-5431 or 1-888-816-5137.

Hi,
I'm a lister in Seattle and have been looking for an UrS4 for 3 months.
Per your post I'm happy to see that there are so many S-cars in West
Seattle, but of course being so good, people don't sell them I think.
Do you know of any for sale? I know of the '94 Pearl w/87K, and the '95
green w/140K (been mod'd and demod'd now). I'm going to look at the '94
Pearl, but my hunch isn't good on that one.

The FM antenna amplifiers (2 each) are external to the head unit. If
you have the in-glass antenna's, then the one amp (for the front
windshield) is in the front A pillar; the one for the rear antenna is
(I believe with all my heart) under the back deck, above the metal
plate that is on the trunk side, right next to the place the wires drop
down. The Bentley manual illustrates these locations quite well,
although they are a pain in the arse to get to.
I think it's dubious that you lost both antenna's at the same time
unless the antenna connector got disconnected (sits on the rightmost
side of the rear of the stereo). Question: do you get AM OK, and only
FM is failed, or have both failed? All this advice of course presumes
you have the in-glass antenna's. If you have a standard antenna (wire
mast, power antenna, etc) that shipped in some of the model years, then
I don't have the answers for you....
Cheers!

STEVE MUNDY WROTE:
My radio (Bose Delta) suddenly seems to have lost the
ability to amplify sound from the radio tuner. The tape
player sounds fine; the CD player sounded fine as well,
at lease until I removed the temperature control unit to
reach under the radio to check for loose wires. (I haven't
tracked down an extraction tool yet, so I had to take the
indirect route.) Now there's no power to the CD changer.
Bummer.
Does anybody know if there is an antenna amplifier in the
radio unit? Is that likely to be the problem, since the station
select buttons seem to work? (Although somewhere along
the line they were all reset to 87.7) Rebuilt units from the dealer
are $200 -- cheap if the radio unit is the problem, but expensive
for trial-and-error.

Excellent suggestion! :)
No support cars are allowed though, so both would have to "compete" :)
The exhaust on the Continental GT is *spectacular*. There is no better way
to describe it.
Let me know when you make arrangements for the cars :)

FLYING in is a good idea - that way you can stock up on barf bags (arf, arf,
arf).
Personally the car of choice is the Bentley Continental GT, with a Cayenne
Turbo to stock up the picnic hamper.

Seriously though...
If anyone wants a co-driver / team member, just let me know. I'll pay my
share of the entry fee and expenses :)
Just let me know which airport to show up at :)

Subject: [s-cars] Boost quest
Further testing of the MRC chips show the small problems in the quest for
more boost. I can get 1,25 bar but then I get pressure bleed off above that.
It is some small leak in the boost system. Too small to dump a 2224 code,
but big enough to steal 0,1 - 0,2 bar (2 - 3 psi) of pressure off the top
end. The only real indication I get is needle flutter in my boost gauge at
1,25 bar.
I am going to build a simple pressure tester. I think if I am to seriously
tune this car, I will need one.

range is possible? How difficult is it to slide the subframe once the

Rich
The flutter issue sounds to me like your bypass valve. Your charge air
pressure is much higher downstream of your throttle body. You are overcoming
the spring compression of the valve and it is siphonong of your boost. This
flutter you describe is indicative of this problem. The system sort of burps
through the BPV. Solutions vary but the best that I have found is the
reverse
plumbing of a larger BPV. This will eliminate the fight between the charge
air pressure and the valve spring. As always YMMV. HTH.

You write 1516.002 (1517.002?)... It's definately 1516.002 now. I have a
current set, and the Eibach tech claimed that those were the "right" ones.
Hard to tell the true story. I asked a bunch of questions, in light of what
I've heard from listers over the past several months, and I just relayed on
the answers I received. One question I didn't ask was... If the 1516.002s
are the right spring, what was the 1517.002 supposed to be for, if not the
S4?
All past incidents behind... I still gotta say I absolutely love them. My
car has the 1517.002 rears, from which I cut off exactly one inactive coil
(I
can hear it now). This resulted in reducing the free length of the spring
to
what the "right" one (1516.002) now is.
Several other listers have asked me (off list) what I did, and I told them.
They did the same coil removal, and have been happy with the results.
However, no one will likely make public mention of coil cutting, as it
generally brings an onslaught of objections. I asked the tech about this
method of dealing with the problem, and he assured me that the spring rates
(there are 2) would remain in tact, as several of the upper coils function
as
spacers, more or less. Either way, he offered to send me a pair of the
1516.002s gratis.

It is in the driver side inside the dashboard behind fuse box. The off
the cover above pedals. There are line of relays (max. 6), fuel pump
relay is rightmost. If it is orginal, it says 208 in the relay,
replaced can say 372.
