[s-cars] Control Arm symptoms

When doing my T belt, the mechanic said I need 2 inner and 4 outer control
arm bushings. I didn't want the bill to get too far into 4 digits, so I
passed on the repair as the steering felt really tight and rattle free.
Being a true patriot of the self fulfilling prophecy, it now seems to me
that the steering wheel shudders in my hand (with slightly perceptible
visual confirmation) whenever I roll over sharp bumps/heaves at speeds
>30mph. The steering wheel itself has no play when I shake/rattle/roll the
wheel in the driveway. The steering rack it tight, etc. Drive wheels are
TIGHT (!)
Another thing I noticed is occasionally and if the stars align, I feel a
looseness in the front end when hitting a bump/undulation while taking a
corner at lower speeds... I can almost feel the drive wheels wiggling - a
definite worn bushing issue.
Could both symptoms be related to worn control arm bushing? Is this a job
for a B- shade tree mechanic?
Thank you, Ed
