Ron
I just this minute got off of the phone with Tammy at Hancock Industries
(915) 692-9290. www.hancockindustries.com
I am the proud owner of a remanufactured Zexel unit of the same part number
and cost that Doug mentions in his previous post. They also have the
accumulator in stock. They also have new units of the same part number for
$100 more than remanufactured. (I decided to go w/ the remanufactured one
and put the $100 toward a new Samco...or beer. Besides, putting a new part
in might make all of those other 10 year old parts around it jealous, and we
don't want to upset the harmony.)

Dave, soon to be chillin' again in a black/black 93 $4

Ron,

BTDT -
My old post read "I spoke to Doyle from Hancock Industries in Texas. He has
the core for the Zexel DCW-17B (direct fit for UrS4/6) and wants $359.50 for
a re-manufactured (not repaired or re-conditioned) A/C compressor. The core
charge is $150. His part number is 43-7021E. Warranty requires dryer
(accumulator) and Orifice be replaced. Dryer is $36.58 and Orifice is
out-o-stock."

This is the best price out there that has availability. Compressor
International in CA has a lower price $302.27 - but they don't have any
cores.

I do not see any problem with a correctly re-manufactured compressor. System
works great. The wobble plate design of these compressors make them a little
quieter than most, but more importantly you never feel them 'kick' on and
off. This design, I've been told, is fabulous, but contributes to the
longer-term reliability issue that we see at about 75K miles or so.

Just finished this in April,
Doug L.

Hello all,

I am in need of a new or rebuilt A/C compressor for my 93 S4. I have been
told by more than one person/mechanic that a re-built is a real crap shoot
as they tend to fail very quickly. But a NEW compressor is $1300!

I recall last year that somone on the list was going the re-built route and
would be interested to hear about their experience going this way. I have
tracked down two different companies selling re-builts with 1-yr waranties
as long as you replace dryer/accumulator. But as we all know, the
compressor is not the only pricey part of this equation.

I suppose I would consider one from a bone-yard, but this would be almost as
big a risk as the re-builts are supposed to be.

Call me cheap, but $2,200 for a working climate control system is a bit much
to take!

Any info. or BTDT would be helpful.

TIA
