Hello Scott:
I drove one at the Shea Stadium Volvo event in NYC a month ago. They
had a school set up with race driving instructors, and took us on four
laps in the cars, then unleased us each one on one with an instructor
for another four laps. I only killed one cone (pedestrian or curb, take
your pick).
The car is incredibly tight, with a dash setting of three choices for a
500updates/sec shock absorber adjustment run by computer. Additionally,
it calculates yaw and lean and adjusts the shocks for them as well.
Three hundred horsepower comes on strong and early, with high torque
and horsepower at 1800 rpm. I drove the six speed manual, but they have
a five speed automatic also, which I have on my 2000 V70R, a sweet ride.
Anyway, the car's four wheel drive is also computer controlled, and
will direct power to the only wheel with traction, no matter where it
is. I watched them drive it up a set of rollers like you use for
unloading a truck, with only a few fixed rollers available on only one
wheel. Car went right up.
I prefer the wagon, and have one on order. There are only 3800 cars
coming this year, with 20% wagons and rest S60R's. Don't expect a
discount, and at about $42000 to $44,000, the wagon is a good
deal-lot's of room, Volvo safety, unbelievable acceleration in a great
comfortable car. I already have two V70R wagons, a 99 and 2000. Each is
faster than my wife's stock S6, and corner just as well. The new V70R
seemed to me to blow the doors off the V8 avant I test drove a couple
of months ago.
A bit wordy, but I had a great time driving the cars and hope to add to
the stable. Can't go wrong with a Vulva, uhh Volvo
Yours,
Rich Molk
ANd BTW, a public thank you to Scott for helping me out with multiple
carfaxes.
