[s-cars] pollen filter final chapter - one available (and windshield re-sealed)

Well, I was not so lucky, not sure why but I do not have a place for this
filter in my 94 S4 (build 11/93). Great instructions, but when I get to the
part about the three screws that open up the airbox, they're just not there.
The box is sealed all across the top , although I can certainly see where
the flap is open for the air intake towards the firewall. inside that flap,
I can feel the A/C cooling thingamajig - but this box does'nt have a place
for a filter.

So the new part 4B0 819 439A, which is the interior filter with the
activated charcoal that I got from Rod for $25 is available if anyone wants
it, $25 and it's yours, I'll ship it to you.

By the way, I couldn't believe the cr#p job that was done with the new
windshield install from PO. Too many huge gobs all over one side and a few
dots of sealant on the other. so the fitment of that clippy piece was really
not possible on one side and the air actually came into the vehicle on the
other (driver's side upper dash). I cut out the over-goo and then resealed
the under-gooed side. Everything went back together smoothly and snug, I'm
expecting that wind noise I had to go away from this 'repair' since pieces
are where they're designed to fit.

As if there's ever a final chapter-
Thanks again to Igor for finding this 'sucker' and Sean for posting EZ
instructions:
"Just finished replacing the pollen filter, my 1997 did not have it
installed. Bought it from the dealer for $25, the p/n is 4A1 820 367.
Replacing it is kinda a pain and it takes about 30 minutes. Here's a
link showing step by step with pictures.

Getting the wipers off is probably the hardest part, I ended up using a
combination of a large screwdriver and a small pry bar to get them
loose."

I would only add that I got the filter from vwparts.com for $19.47 (but
mostly cause they had the vw turbo franken fender piece that I combined my
order with.) Rod at TPC may even be cheaper??
Anyway, I opened everything up and wasn't too surprised to learn (as Igor
had
too I think) that a filter was never installed. Nadda -Zip-zilch!
(From the same parts bin as the S6 door tweeters. . . I think these two
design features are from the Audi/Kurbin collection;)
NOTE that I did fine a tennis ball size worth of decayed leaves and gunk
infront of the cooling fins. So if your fresh air stinks, this is no doubt
the culprit. It took a long slim vacuum sucker (tube ) to suck it all out.
Another 30 minute job that took an hour.
So, if you havent done this, go do it! Really...and clean up things while
youre in there;)
cheers'
