Hey, I'm disappointed in youse list guys. You all got great advice, but no
one's mentioned the typical track day "killer" for first time events - DA
Hose! At the very least, especially if one has just chipped a car, if you
haven't already replaced it, you should take along a spare lower Michelin
man Intercooler to X-over pipe hose.... hum, and a good set of replacement
clamps as long as you are down there. They, the Michelin man hoses, are,
in my limited experience, notorious for blowing on track days. Especially
if you've got a 130K OEM hose in there that's never been changed out and/or
its a particularly warm day out. The other three intake track (two more on
the pressure side, one on the vacuum) fail occasionally, but no where near
with the certainty, or the regularity of the fat boy.
If you can lay your hands on spare hose, or find a source for a SAMCO
version of at least the lower IC x-over part, I think its a great piece of
insurance to take to the track with you. If not, a good roll of duct tape,
a pair of wire pliers and some thin wire might be in order for patching so
you can at least get back home if the hose goes.
Otherwise, perhaps a better set of front brake pads, maybe even track
specific ones along with a good brake system flush and fill with a good
quality high temp brake fluid. Even with a stock car (i.e. not chipped) my
guess is you will very likely max your stock brakes out more than once at
the track. Heat soaked brakes are far, far ahead of heat soaked
intercoolers as the weakest link in the stock cars performance package. PS,
not common but it wouldn't hurt to have someone knowledgeable about brake
lines take a really close look at all your rubber lines and fittings as
well.
