The new vw's require a more agressive maneuver, a drill and badge removal,
wv's lock in the center only since 95 or so IMS.

The S car is pretty simple if the cable hasn't snapped. Make a hook out of a
coat hanger, and go fishing for the cable that crosses under the hood. Lift
up on the rubber seal below the hood, the cable crosses about 4in back from
the front of the hood line. Snag and pull...

Any more questions on the procedure, Bob Pacifico is alumni cum laude;
notorized by my relentless jibing....

When I've had this problem on my Volkswagens, and it seems to always be the
driver's side, I simultaneously pound (gently) on the corner of the hood
while pulling on the hood release. Or have a helper just pull up on the
hood while you pull on the hood release.
