Hello:
My wife's 1995 S6 is now for sale, after a six month battle with the
dealer (Hoffman) in East Hartford, CT. Originally brought in for a full
tune up and timing belt change, Hoffman's mechanic cut off the timing
belt and used the two intake valves from cylinder four to halt the
piston and steady the crank while loosening the harmonic balancer.
After multiple phone calls, and the wonderful intervention of the State
Attorney General's office, Hoffman's finally fixed the car and gave a
12 month 12000 mile full powertrain transferrable warranty. I got the
car back last week, and after bringing it back for a set of new spark
plug boots (to cure the minor missing) and a new brake reservoir and
sender (to cure the blinking brake light) it is now perfect.

Hoffman's paid to have it detailed, inside and out. The paint glows,
and the leather is spotless. There are the usual wrinkles in the
leather from wear on the leg bolsters of the front seats, as the car
has 87000 miles. The paint has the usual superficial scratches, and
there are two deeper scratches in the rear bumper, and a small dent in
the left rear corner of the trunk lid area (about one to one and a half
inches long). Otherwise, great.
No previous repaints, fender benders, rust, etc. The car was in near
perfect condition, which was why my wife elected to get it the $1500
tune up, despite my offer to get her another car of her choice. ("But I
like it" was her response).
Anyway, we got the car second hand from the local Mercedes dealer in
1997, I think. It had 1 1/2 years of warranty left and had 30,000 miles
on it then. We never had a single problem with the car. Color
Green/Ecru.
Right now, it has new rubber in the form of Continentals all season
touring tires. I have a bunch of digital pictures which I will be happy
to forward to you if you want. The car is totally stock, never having
been played around with, and was always stored in the heated garage
when not on the road. Motor is strong, clutch is fine, brakes are fine,
etc.
With the inclusion of the total powertrain warranty by API which is
transferrable to the new owner, I feel there is no risk to the sale.
Although it suffered from the timing belt issue with the dealer's
screwup, the guarantee will cover any problems. I would be happy to
have any local listers check out the car for the rest of you, at your
discretion. Ray had first dibs, since he was a true rock in this storm
with the dealer, but he does not need it.
Price to the list is $16000, including warranty. Vin Number is
WAUKA84ASN053776. In service date is June 29, 1995. Please call or
email with any questions.
Yours,
Rich Molk
