[s-cars] Blaupunkt MDP-01 Compatibility - NOT COMPATIBLE :-(

I agree with Kirby that the typical FM radio station
is a very poor indicator of the fidelity that the medium
is capable of providing. Last time I looked at broadcast
FM stations with an RF spectrum analyzer, most of them
seemed to occupy all of their FCC allocated bandwidth
on an almost continuous basis due to the high level of
signal compression. Classical stations were much
better.
Because of the "capture" effect in FM, the demodulated audio
S/N increases rapidly with RF signal level (carrier-to-noise)
once you get above the quieting threshold.
Linearity is really a different animal, and has more to do with
the equipment that the medium. The end-to-end linearity
of AM or FM broadcast is limited by the linearity of the
modulator, IF filtering, and demodulator chains that are used.
I highly doubt that the cheap modulators for in-car wireless
connections have very good linearity.
All this being said, I personally can't see the point of
putting a modulator and demodulator in the audio signal path
just to avoid some minor wiring.

Paul
