I am not real big into tracking daily drivers but I must say a couple of
things here with regards to this disagreement...err discussion :) I see
some people making the point that Big HP cars are compensating for bad
driving in some cases. Yet I see those same people purporting the benefits
of light weight cars. Well it's easy as hell to whip a little roadster
around a track, especially an underpowered one, and cut a very precise and
sharp line. Hell the track car that we built that had a little over 300 HP
and handled at 1.02 Gs was a heck of a lot easier to drive around a track
than a 300 HP S-Car! I think the argument that it helps you develop your
skills more driving around a 2500 lb underpowered car is bogus. Weight
helps acceleration and cornering on a first order whereas HP only helps
acceleration on a first order basis.

What the particular person enjoys is simply a personal choice. Of course
the S4 is not the ultimate track car, but then again neither is a 5k, 4k, or
URQ. If you want the ultimate in working a line track a competition
go-cart, if you want the ultimate in straight-away power and heavy weight at
the expense of cornering track a 70's musclecar. Most everybody wants
something between these two extremes and nowehere in this continuum is there
a best or a worst; and just because some German bunch of guys decided to
prepare or not prepare a car for the track doesn't mean it stinks or is
awesome. Hell, these people work for the same bunch of nimrods that won't
import stickshifts in half of their offerings including some of their RS
line!
