[s-cars] Brake Options?

I think alot of the improved feel of replacing the pads up front comes from
just getting the rear brakes re-adjusted tighter to the rotors.
To that extent, after I upgraded to my 996 set-up I went out to do some
bedding and tests.
I was less than impressed with the pedal feel, since we had not really
touched the rears any.
We suction bleed the fronts and therefore had very little manual brake pedal
push bleeding.

I decided to check things out with out the rear brake circuit connected.
Well the pedal now felt like stone.
Even with fat tires I was able to lock the fronts up (with out ABS ) which
is very hard to do with the rear's connected.

Now, I have also driven an S6 with a coleman replicator front rotor (not
sure of the Dia.) and the G60's on a custom bracket.
There was absolutely nothing wrong with the feel or the stopping power of
that set-up. There is a combination of problems with the stock G60 set-up.
Diameter of the rotor, thickness and cooling of the rotor, and pad material
all contribute to the stock set-up's down falls. This ofcourse is just my
HO, and YMMV.

And to sum up how much I like my 996/993 conversion, I trashed my GOOD
summer rims because I could not get a set of 17" steel rims and snow tires
for last winter. But there was no way in hell the brakes where coming off
for the winter, as I had planned.

Hope it wasn't too long winded :-)

I will echo what Vincent suggests. It is absolutely amazing the difference
a new set of pads and rotors makes. I no longer have to pump the brakes to
get good pedal feel and I have confidence in the brakes again. I think the
problem with the OEM set up is that after you wear them about a third of the
way, or so, the system gets too much flex in it and you start getting that
mushy feel. So, if you're looking to save some money for now you can put in
new rotors and pads all the way around for $300 or less. And then upgrade
to Big Reds/Blacks as the pocket book allows.
