I actually found the opposite was true in my case.  I had replaced the rears
last year with Zimmerman's and Textar pads and while the pedal feel improved
somewhat, it still wasn't all that great.  A few weeks ago I finally broke
down and threw in a new set of OEM front rotors and pads (Zimmermans and
Mintex Redbox this time) as a stop gap and that created a step change in
pedal feel.  It's not rock solid like it is with the Porsche caliper
upgrades but it is an order of magnitude greater than worn, or even
semi-worn, OEM brakes.
