[s-cars] bad dashboard computer display in 2000 S4 - ideas?

In the UrS cars this has been a problem as well.
Seems the dash needs to be taken apart and the contacts to the unit cleaned.

Mine (Cad 93') had some problems when it was cold. The display would
digigarble (like satellite TV does in a rain storm) until the car was warm.
I had to remove the dash for a boost gauge project, and simply unplugging
and re plugging in the unit cleared the issue.

Don't spend anything let alone $700 before you check the contacts and clean
them.

Subject: [s-cars] bad dashboard computer display in 2000 S4 - ideas?

The center display in the dashboard console of my 2000 S4 has gone
haywire. The LED's in the center console display have begun to go on
the fritz, and the areas where the radio station, outside temperature,
and other computer information displays now have become unreadable due
to missing lines. I took it in to my local dealership and they said
that it wasn't a normal occurrence, but it would cost me over 700
dollars to fix it (essentially having to replace the whole dashboard
display). Unfortunately it's now obviously out of warranty by almost a
year, and I can't read any of the display (wish I had the current four
year warranty that they now offer on Audi's). The lines seem to come in
and out of view, sometimes lighting up, and other times being dead to
the world. Anyone have any suggestions on where I can get a cheap
replacement, or if there's anything electronically that I can do to fix
it? Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
