[s-cars] Track car or not track car

I've been driving around a track-prepped 951S with the "cup" suspension the last couple of days, and it feels really impressive. I don't suggest it at all unless it is really a dedicated track car, as driving it around town and on the highways will cause you to get really friendly with your dentist and chiropractor...

I can't find Gary's post about the sway bars to see what he was going with, but I highly recommend the factory 968 M030 setup wtih the 30mm hollow front and 19mm 3-way adj. rear bars.
They made a huge improvement to my car!

Anyway, my 0.02 EUR on the subject is that a dedicated track car is THE way to go. Get the lightest car you can (2500lbs max!!!) , tire and brake cost seems to go up exponentially with weight. Running the Golf on the ring costs me 1/3 as much per lap in "consumables cost", but offers 85% of the fun of the 968CS.. One of the best things to is the peace of mind knowing that if I bin the golf, the out of pocket cost is significantly less than if I were to bin the 968 (or a UrS4..)

Plus we all know the thrill it is to pass a Porsche/Camaro/Whatever in our Family sedans, it's even more thrilling to pass them in a little shitbox that you've got max 4K into all inclusive :)

(Spec) Miata, MkII Golf GTI's, E30 318is's all make great cheap track tools..

I'll definately be getting a dedicated track car when I get back to the states :)

Cheers,
Keith

Gary,
If you're the owner of a 951S, you should know that the car already
comes
with brake cooling ducts. If you mean the ducting from the wheelwell
liner
to the rotor hat, then yes, it could use that for track use.

If you're going to larger swaybars, why not 951 Cup suspension?

Taka
