[s-cars] Air to Liquid Intercoolers - Comments??

Gary,

The reply was only about the last part of the post regarding water
injection as the thread about water spraying occasionaly digress to
water injection. BTW, if you're looking for subjects to keep your
neurons busy this week-end, what about adding a second condenser to the
A/C system, located just in front of the intercooler and activated by
electrical valves triggered by the WOT switch. Just a crazy idea as I've
nothing else to do with my own neurons right now.

Thanks for the reply.

I wasn't talking about intercooler sprayer, but a liquid to air
intercooler exchange, which os the intercooler wrapped in an aluminum
shell filled with radiator cooled water.

Personally, I think water injection is the way to go...

If you dig deep enough in the archive of the list, you'll find a long
thread about water spraying the intercooler vs water injection. I think
there is a some dyno results also but not sure.

No one seems to talk about them on-list. Seems like a great way to dial
in boost/timing maps when intake temps are nearly certain, or at least
in a tight range.

My suppostitions...

Downsides:
Weight - gotta add water and pipes
Space/Package - gotta be bigger than a air to air intercooler
Throughput - I'd think with the bigger packaging, you are sacrificing
some IC size, and size equals density

Upsides
Packaging - "But you just said..." Yeah, but these keep the air cooler
than the same size air to air. If you can put in the same size core,
you should have more density.
Air Temp Certainty - Should make software programming easier

And of course, the twist. Use an air to air intercoler, then water
inject. I believe this is the best solution. I nearly did this on the
200 TQA, but I found (and bought) the S6 TQA

Comments welcome...
