It would drop a cylinder at all loads and speeds one moment, then it would =
run fine everywhere.

Probably #4 coil. How did it behave? Started missing only under boost b=
ut would cruise OK and then slowly get worse?

I've got a problem with my 95.5 S6. Here's the setup:
a.. In Feb I had a POS channel go bad. I swapped over the wires to u=
se the spare channel and things were fine.
b.. A few weeks later came another misfire. When I went to diagnose =
it the motor went back to hitting on all 5 again, so I couldn't figure whic=
h cylinder had the problem. I figured I was losing another POS channel, so=
I bought a new one from a lister.
c.. Over the past few months the misfire would pop up again, then qui=
ckly disappear, usually after I turned the car off and then started it back=
up again. Like running a Microsoft based car.
d.. Yesterday the misfire came, but this time it didn't leave. Using=
the remove-the-fuel-injector-plug method I determined it was #4. That mad=
e sense, since the POS for #4 was the one that had the bad channel from Feb=
. I found the new POS I'd purchased months ago and popped it in, and guess=
what? No change! I swapped out the other POS just to be sure, again no c=
hange. Darn.
e.. Checked the spark plugs, they were all tight. I changed the #4 s=
park plug and the miss was still there.
Soooo, what's the next likely place to look?
Thanks in advance,
Phil
