Just an update.  The problem was found thanks to the help of some very smart
guys on the list.  It was a broken wire upstream from the air temperature
sensor.  The wire insulation was apparently undamaged but there was no
continuity when tested.  Symptoms were - low boost and engine check light
accompanied by mild stumbling when accelerating.

Thanks to all - what an amazing resource this is.
