The rear speakers are, get this, 1 Ohm, powered by the amp that sits between
the two rear speakers, mounted to the underside of the hat tray. The
upgrade is easy enough, simply buy some quality 6x9 component speakers, an
amp to power them, and use the leads going into the Bose amp. The signal
sent to this amp is not powered, so the new amp/speakers are good to go.
6x9's will mount into the stock speaker mounts, once your melt the speaker
covers to remove the bad speakers and replace with the new; then remelt the
covers back into place.
If you replace the door speakers, re-use the bose wave guides for the front
door speakers, but you will have to bypass the amps that are in the
waveguides ... they are designed for 1 ohm speakers, so if you use them for
a traditional 4 ohm or 8 ohm aftermarket door speaker, they will overheat
and shut down ... not to mention, sound like crap.

pulled the stock system out ... wires and all ... and, no, 38 year olds do
not bump bass, just love crystal clear tunes
