If one ECU is replaced with a known good, and the car doesn't start, getting
another one will do one of two things: 1) the car still won't start (my
suspicion), or 2) whatever blew out the first replaced ECU will blow another one.
Did you try putting your original into a car that does run?
I'd suspect something along the lines of POS, lost timing reference pin, no
rpm signal, or no fuel. Ed, more information would be of a greater help to you
and us. Do you have spark and fuel? I'd guess one is missing, probably
spark. Codes? The first test I'd do is spray some starting fluid into the IM,
and see if the car starts and runs, even if for a short while. If it doesn't
you have a spark problem. Remove the coil packs and lay on the valve cover,
look for spark on all cylinders firing onto the valve cover. If you have spark
on only 2, or only 3, one of the POS is bad, swap them, then you will have
spark on only 3 or only 2 respective to the first test.
If you have no spark to any cylinder, then ck your reference sender/pin.

Everyone,
My car is in a shop in Waterford (Waterford European), where the mechanic
(Dennis, the owner) is having problems with it.
My ECU went bad and was replaced with another one. The car still does not
start, although everything seem to check out OK, thus pointing at the ECU.
If you are willing to lend a hand by allowing the mechanic to remove your ECU
and plug it into my car to see whether the car will start, I will be very,
very grateful. It should take 5 minutes.
Please call me at 248.672.5397 or just email.
If you have a spare ECU that you can let me borrow, that would be great also.
Thanks in advance,
Ed Bank
