Angelo,
I recently replaced my whole thing. DON'T try and use other speakers in your
Bose system. The impedance of the Bose speakers typically measures around
1.2-1.4 ohms. Put a 4 ohm speaker in there, and your Bose amp won't be able to
drive it well. Conversely, if you try and drive Bose speakers with an
aftermarket amp, you will make it very unhappy, as they are not generally stable
enough to handle 1 ohm loads (too close to a short... overheat the amp). You can
"cheat" by wiring 2 Bose speakers in parallel, which results in a 2.4-2.8 ohm
load... and aftermarket amps will be fine with that.

Best bet is to replace your Bose speaker with a new one, or do as another
lister suggested and install a rear amp and rear speakers, and use your Bose
system simply as the input signal for your new amp/speakers.

If you want to get out of this really cheap, I have the 2 Bose 6x9s removed
from my car. They are not ripped/blown, etc... and can be yours for the cost
of shipping. You will have to do the melt and disassemble exercise, as my
speakers have been removed from the plastic housings... but that isn't too
difficult.
HTH,
Dave in CO
