[s-cars] I have TAP and I didn't even know it!(semi-long)

Hello everyone. Found about 1 inch of standing water in the passenger
footwell of my 95.5 S6 this morning after some heavy overnight rain. Uh oh,
that's where the ECU is, that's no good. Mopped it up best I could and drove
off to work. Car decides to die in the middle of the interstate, ten miles
later. Starts, cranks, doesn't catch. Sometimes catches, idles for a second
or two then dies. I figure the ECU or the connector to it got moisture down
there and I have intermittencies/shorts all over the place. Unplug the ECU,
clean everything off, dry the ECU in the sun for a while and it starts right
up. Drove it home, shop-vacced it and it's drying as we speak. While
fiddling with the ECU, I noticed that it has been modified by TAP, as
evidenced by a big bright sticker on it. This is something I was not aware
of when I bought the car and something the PO may not have known about
either. I have not heard very many good things about TAP mods in general and
want to get rid of it asap because 1) I don't know what exactly was modified
and 2) the car, while fast, doesn't feel as if it's chipped. Idle is
somewhat rough, etc. I want a proper mod, a la MTM or something from Mihnea.
So, I have two questions. One, where could my rain leak be from? Windows
were closed, doors were shut, roof was closed. I am guessing water is
getting in somehow through the heater core and through the footwells.
Clogged drain? Where do I check? Two, what TAP mod could I possibly have? I
know the car had a K&N filter. What else could have been modified?
Adjustable wastegate? I HATE being so inexperienced in 20v turbos. Then
again, that's what this list is for. Thanks guys,

Rokas
