[s-cars] Installing Strut Tower Cross Brace on '92 S4?

I have picked up all of the parts to install a strut tower cross brace on
my '92 S4 - which did not come with one installed from the factory.
However, now that I have the brackets and the bar... I have found that the
reason these bars were not installed on the '92's was that the
"extendable" hood lifter is right in the way of the drivers side bracket.

The only way that I could see too solve this problem, would be to move the
mounting position of the hood lifter where it attaches to the fender.  Has
anyone BTDT?  And is there an adapter bracket out there that will move the
lifter to a position that allows the brace to fit?
