Paul, Just a thought, have you ever replaced the fuel pump relay. I had a
couple of shut downs in the extreme low temps, shut the car right down in
the middle of narrow-lane-tight-right-hand turn with cars and walls on
either side. I still had my servotronic relay in, so when the car shut down,
steering got quite heavy mid turn. I, ahem, immediately needed a new set of
underpants. It did it again .25 miles later and then ran fine for the next
20 until I replaced the FP relay.
This all reminded me of my old GTI, the matter in which things shut down. No
sputter, no warning, just an abrupt, but not jerky shutdown. After I
replaced the relay no problems.
