[s-cars] fuel vapor on warm days . . .

It isn't leaking fluid - just vapor - I actually asked the dealer about this last summer and they said it was a vent for hot days to keep the car from vapor locking . . it is a 1/2" plastic tube that runs back from behind the passenger wheel well under the car about 6-12" and is open ended. it doesn't look as if it was ever meant to connect to anything else and looks like it is there for a purpose, it just seem that lately I have been getting more of the vapor on hot days than I had before . . . and was wondering if maybe I am running a little on the rich side . . . I had the fuel line recall done a few years back and it seems to be fine, my fuel economy is great - about 20 mpg even with all the h.p./boost my car runs. thanks again for your concern and look forward to continuing this thread for ideas . .. let me know if any of you don't have this plastic tube extending from the back side of your passenger wheel well = it is easily seen if you look under the car under the passenger door area about 6" in from the edge of the underside of the car.

  Marc,

There should be NO fuel vapor vented on warm days or cold days or any other days. This is a major violation of environmental laws for a manufacturer to use such a "feature". The car is not designed to do this. Have you examined the leak closely? Was (is?) your car part of the fuel line recall of a few years back? If so, was the fuel line replacement done at that time? In any case, it sounds like you have a leaking fuel line which is a major hazard and which should be repaired or replaced ASAP.

A common place for such a leak to develop is under/inside a rubber mounting fastener which holds the line in position under the car.

Does this happen to anyone else . . . this really started happening a lot last summer and starting to notice it again . . . not really noticeable at all this last winter. I am running Hoppen/Lehman stage IV software (26-27 max overboost), 8.5:1 compression pistons, RS2 turbo, RS2 extrude honed ex. manifold, RS2 injectors, Lehman modified cyl. head, Strommung 3" turbo back exhaust (mit cat), stock MAF, metal bypass valve. I had the dealers recall done on the fuel line so that is definitely not where the vapor is coming from. In fact I can get under the car and see the fumes coming out of the tube I decribed on a hot day. Is the just something normal . . . I just can't believe how vaporous the garage smells and even my wife can tell it aint coming from my backside. TIA.
