Yes, I don't think that one should view the RS2 EM as only a short term
solution. I have one that has just about 100k on it. My use doesn't compare to
what is possible in Europe, but I work my cars pretty hard. Mine still doesn't
have any cracks, and was never coated in any way.
Another thing that might increase longevity... Another CO lister (Chad
Clark) felt that he was experiencing exhaust leaks due to the EM warping. (I think
that's the story) He removed it, and sure enough, it was no longer flat. He
then had it machined flat. So I'm thinking, that once the EM has been
"seasoned," it might not be a bad idea to have it checked and machined. That alone
should help reduce the stress put on the part, and quite possibly increase its
useful life.
