I am surprised at the number of states that have only 2wd dynos.  Out here
in Colorado we have 4 wheel dynos in just about every emissions facility.

funny you should mention that.  i had my '92 S4 smogged a few days ago.
the guy drove the front wheels onto the 2-wheel dyno.  i told him he
couldn't do that because it was full-time AWD.  he said there wasn't
anything to indicate that the car was AWD.  i pointed out the differential
lock on the console, but he just shrugged and said "i do what the
computer says".  i told him i'm not going to let him run the car on
the 2 wheel dyno, at which point he got testy and told me how he smogs
cars every day, blah blah blah.

his supervisor came up and asked what's going on.  i told him my car is
AWD and it's not supposed to go on the dyno.  he looked under the car,
saw driveshafts at every corner, and agreed.  the car got the sniffer
test only.

the funny thing is, after the car was smogged and i got the test report,
i saw that the test report contained a notice from the california DMV
that said the car was fulltime AWD and should get the sniffer test only.
apparently the guy never read it.

sheesh.
