[s-cars] accelerator pedal cover has popped off??

Has anyone experienced the cover of the gas pedal coming off?  the pedal is still operational but has a metal wire protuding from what is left. . . can't drive with bare feet which is not a major problem.  Any quick, easy $ fix??  I guess 220,000 miles of mashing the throttle finally took its toll on the pedal :-)
