This is normal. After a few days (about 7) of not being used, the infrared
receiver will shut down to save battery power. You have to then open the
car with the key first and then the system resets itself.

My first guess would probably a be valve cover leak.

Yup. Did the same a few years back, though I didn't go to the UK to pick it
up. Got some parts shipped over from a UK junkyard (breakers). The back of
the carpet is already scored for the cut outs you'll need to make, though it
is pretty stiff so it will take a little bit of work with a utility knife.
Hopefully you got the associated brackets along with it as I don't believe
those are available from a local dealer, though I could be wrong. There is
also a foam pad that locates/holds the top of the triangle and is hidden
behind the carpet, so if you got this from a junk car you may not have
noticed it as it is hidden from view. The plastic nutserts that snap into
the existing openings in the trunklid are available from the dealer.
