James,
I agree with you. If you are having only a partial readout of the display, that is completely unrelated to the ignition switch failure. A failed ignition switch will cause it stick in the 'START' position, or part way between 'START' and 'RUN'. While in the 'START' position power is completely disabled to high current draw items, such as the HVAC, via the X-Cutout relay. You can't have partial power to only some elements of the display from this failure mode. It's all or nothing. To confirm that it is not the ignition switch you should check to see if you can turn on your headlights and turnsignals. I would venture to say they work just fine, indicating the switch is not the source of your problems.
