Kevin,

There is no easy answer to stop the leak; the only product that was effective on my wife's '95 Cabriolet was Lucas' power steering stop leak.  It is more expensive than most additives, but was the only one that seemed to do the job.

The fix was good for 4 months; but unsure after that, for we traded the car in for an A4 (not related to the steering rack, wife did not like hauling the baby in a soft top).

In the long run, the dealer sells a rebuild kit to replace the seals ... far cheaper than replacing the rack.  Now you just need someone to do the re-build, unless you are up to it yourself.
