This is a long shot, but when the clutch in my 200 died, 
the tab on the clutch pedal itself had broken off.  I could 
push in the pedal and it would spring to the floor, but not 
come back up. I could pull it up with my hand or a toe. 
But it did nothing for engaging the clutch.

But yours sounds like either the master cylinder or slave 
cylinder has died.  If so, replace them both (when one
goes, the other isn't far behind).
