Google found a string of comments from some North Carolina fellow on the
LS1tech forum, ?? http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=227314
who claims to have a '03 RS6 and now, a just acquired Mallett version. At
the "lower" end of the Mallett offerings, this appears to add approximately
$16K or so to whatever you're CTS-V base is. Looks like a "new" '04 could
be had for something in the low to mid $40's, and used ones with >6K in the
mid to upper 30's. The $16K buys you an additional 70 bhp, plus some
handling tweaks ~> www.mallettcars.com Looks like the base package does
include somekind of attempt to control or limit wheel hopping.
FWIW, the Katech development car, SN#001, is (was) on ebay. Suggested
opening bid, $78k. Comes with @ 30,000 "easy" miles on the motor and
chassis :-)...., well broken in. http://tinyurl.com/4d5ae
Having recently spent 3 days at a track with a new C6 Corvette, if the CTS-v
handles anything like the Corvette, IMO you wouldn't want to kick a CTS out
of bed just for having RWD and a "old-tech" push rod motor in it. May not
be ideal in the snow, but for most other situations 4 doors, + a trunk etc.
would make this a very nice performance car. I think the CTS is something
like @ +600 lbs more than the C6 (? 3800 vs @ 3200?)
I'll have to bookmark a note to drop back in on that forum sometime to see
if he posts any comparative opinions.
As for "turboing" the Rx8, .... well, ahhh my Audi experiences have left me
a little shy of trying something like this again.
Mike, now driving what may not be one of the quicker Avant's around town,
but it's got the smoothest power delivery of anything I've experienced
lately, i.e. so smooth that power may be deceptive. Scotty, we need more
aggressive Chips!!
