Its been done, talk to Dave Dawson. You can also run 3&1/2" exhaust, BT,DT.
Doesn't affect "bottom end torque" as far as I can tell. It does affect
"top end bhp."
Unless you have a friend in the oval pipe business, going oval can be a
comparatively expensive decision. Oh, going larger, oval or 3.5" is also
substantially noisier, even if you try to keep the resonator etc. in the
system. For some reason, the larger diameter, or so I've been told, is just
going to be boomy'er.... apparently no matter what. So if "stealth" is a
factor in your decision, be aware of this as a potential draw back.
Last, you might want to try to check your " 3-inch" exhaust. A fair number
of systems out there are actually 3" pipe feeding into a 2.5" (plus an
unrolled, sharp edged inlet lip on top of that) rear muffler section. Let
me know if you want or need to see a photo, I still have the old rear
muffler section in the garage.
