Tim:

It's a fairly easy DIY job, just did mine about a month ago, but the
access is fairly tight. You do not need to remove the intake manifold.

Parts and tools;

T-stat (OEM or Wahler)
Rubber o-ring
G11 coolant Pentosin Blue, 1 gal
Drain pan
Rubber hose, 3 ft, 1/2" ID

1. You will need to drain the coolant first. Put the car on ramps or
jackstands and remove the plastic belly pan. The drain cock is on the
right side of the radiator at the bottom. Use a stubby flat blade
screwdrive to loosen drain cock. Attach rubber hose or to drain nipple
and direct the coolant flow into a catch bucket, open drain cock fully.
Loosen or remove the coolant resevoir cap to let air in so it will drain
properly.

2. The t-stat is located on the left side of the engine near the front
and is under a black plastic housing. Two small bolts (8 mm) hold it in
place. It will help to have a small 1/4 drive socket with a universal
joint also one of the bolts can be reached with a long extension and
u-joint, the other requires reaching in with the aforementioned 1/4
drive socket.

3. Remove t-stat, the only problem you may run into is that the t-stat
frequently gets stuck and "welds" itself to the aluminum. I used a small
screwdriver and inserted it through the brass strap to get some leverage
and pulled it out.

4. Install new t-stat. Make sure you note the proper orientation and use
a new rubber o-ring.

5. Put plastic housing back on and tighten the 2 bolts in sequence. Be
careful not to tightnen too much or you may crack the plastic.

6. Tighten up drain cock, put belly pan back on

7. Fill resevoir with a mixture of coolant and distilled water
(depending on the desired temp), start car and fill up as it sucks it
into the radiator.

8. Allow to come to full operating temp and check coolant level.

Hope this helps.
