Actually, I think those technologies are more likely to hasten the demise of the true manual.  For me, as long as I have a left leg and a right arm I will drive a manual.  No matter how good the SMG/DSG type transmissions may be they remove that involvement that I so enjoy about driving a manual and just make it more like a video game.
