Brian,
I would be willing to bet that it is not the resistor. My guess is that
there is a short of some kind inside the piece of silicon that is not
present on the other channels. I would look for a protection diode of some
sort, though. This could be the culprit if there is one. If not, then my
guess is that it is inside your Siemens chip. Measure the resistance to
both ground and the positive rail from the side of the resistor closest to
the Siemens chip. See if this measurement is different for this channel
than the others.

Paul, thanks for the reply.
As near as I can tell (just trying to follow traces), pin 21 (the
output to the POS for cylinder 5) goes straight to this resistor then
into custom Seimens silicon. My fear is that if the resistor isn't the
problem (which is why I posed the question) then I am screwed as once
the lead hits the silicon, who knows what happens from there... :(
