[s-cars] Multi Function Temp Sensor or Thermostat?

S-Heads,

I replaced the Multi Function Temp Sensor a few months back when the weather was warm and all seemed fine, the temp needle would move up the thick hash mark. When the cold weather returned I have the following conditions:

If I am in bumper to bumper low speed traffic, the gauge will move up toward that thick hash mark

If I am cruising at highway speeds, the needle will barley creep up to the first small hash mark.

During a driving trip where I see both types of driving, both cruising and stop and go, I can see the above mentioned corresponding condition.

After start-up on a cold morning I get warm (I suppose it would feel hotter if it weren't so freakin' cold out) coolant hoses (both the large diameter hose at the rad as well as the much smaller hose that connects to the bottom of the overflow reservior, and for that matter the pencil thin overflow line as well. The lines are definitely not cold after idling with the hood up for a few miinutes, so I'm thinking that the T-stat is working, but I'm no expert, soooo.......

Whats wrong, T-stat or MFTS, or something else?
