Could we do a survey on what the normal temp indicated on your Oil Temp
Gauges are?
Mine doesn't move at all (broken wire or failed sensor I haven't had
time to sort out). After about 3 miles, my Dash Temp gauge indicates 90
and Ch51 gradually gets up to about 85.
My wife's Oil Temp Gauge comes just off the rest position - this usually
happens long after the water temp has reached operating temperature.
This car is mostly used for the school run and rarely sees any
significant boost. Again, after about 3 miles the Dash Temp Gauge
indicates 90 and Ch51 gradually gets up to about 85.
My old VW Jetta Gli had an Oil Temp Gauge, and that only got off the
rest position (and indicated up to 130) with some VERY spirited driving.

well, since my oil temp gauge never seems to move at all, i'd say a new
t-stat is in order. i'm glad this post came up, as i was never
comfortable with the idea that the gauge should read
(normally) where it was. thanks very much for the insight.
