[s-cars] Subframe bushings and engine stalling under full throttle in 95.5 S6

Bently lists 2 tools to change the front sub frame bushings. Can this  job be 
done without the tools?
 
Under full throttle in first gear the engine will cut out completely and  
then come back on with a bang. Has anyone else had this happen? It doesn't  
always happen. It feels something like a hard RPM rev limiter cutting in, except  
the engine comes back on.
 
Any input would be appreciated.
