I don't know if it applies to all connectors but, for example, to remove
the ground connectors for the ignition coil, you have to disconnect the
female connector then you can slide the male connector off its bracket.
It cannot be slide off with the female connector attached. If it's the
first time you remove it, as it is obviously, a little penetrating oil
will help the male connector sliding off the bracket.

I see my description might be confusing. What I meant is usually a
male connector and not the one which can be easily removed by pressing
on metal wire lock and slid off, which is usually a female one. Let
say I want to remove RPM sensor off the car. Wire from the sensor
goes to that connector on the firewall bracket (which I crave to
remove). Another part of connector is female one and it can be easily
removed by pressing wire lock tab and sliding off.
I hope it make sense.
