Another option is to Home Depot the hell out of the
thing.  Cut the hose in half on the smooth portion and
put a 2.5" hose coupling from Depot in it to make it a
tad longer.  Make sure you put a bead on each end of
the pipe, so the clamps have something to grab.  This
is also known as Pizzofying or automotive Viagra.
